About Mobley and Grant Auctioneers
Mobley and Grant Auctioneers is based in Mt. Carmel, IL, and operates in the Southeastern Illinois and Southwestern Indiana area. Mobley and Grant Auctioneers specializes in auctions of all types, such as farm equipment auctions, real estate auctions, antiques auctions, and business liquidations.
The auction company has its roots dating back to 1919, when it was founded by Colonel M.M. Mobley as Mobley Auction Service. The Colonel was an Wabash County Sheriff for many years, and a pillar of the community. He worked as an auctioneer until the late 1980’s, which earned him the title of “Oldest Working Auctioneer in the State.”
During the time that Col. Mobley worked as an auctioneer, his grandson, Stewart (Stu) Grant, fell in love with the auctioneering business and decided that he would join his grandfather in the company. Mobley and Grant Auction and Appraisal Co. was founded in 1975 between grandfather and grandson. Col. Mobley passed in 1995, and Stu continued to work as an auctioneer for 40 plus years, up until he lost his battle with cancer in 2017. Stu gave much of his time to charitable causes and was an important member of the Mt. Carmel community, working fundraisers for organizations such as 4-H, FFA, City Lights, Wabash County Sportsman, and others. Stu continued to work auctions up until two weeks prior to his death.
Today, Mobley and Grant Auctioneers is owned and operated by Bryan Grant and Marla Grant, with Bryan working as the Principal Auctioneer. Bryan Grant is Stu’s son, and Col. Mobley’s great-grandson. Bryan attended Reppert’s School of Auctioneering in 2006, and joined the company full time in 2014. Mobley and Grant Auctioneers was formed between Bryan and his father, Stu, in 2015. Bryan Grant is carrying on his father and great-grandfather’s legacy, leading the company with character, integrity, and honesty at the forefront.
